Explorations in ACT-R Based Language Analysis – Memory Chunk Activation, Retrieval and Verification without Inhibition

چکیده

This paper explores the benefits and challenges of using the ACT-R cognitive architecture in the development of a largescale, functional, cognitively motivated language analysis model. The paper focuses on ACT-R’s declarative memory retrieval mechanism, proposing extensions to support verification of retrieved chunks, multi-level activation spread and carry over activation. The paper argues against the need for inhibition between competing chunks which is necessarily task specific.

Error Modeling in the ACT-R Production System

We describe how to extend the ACT-R production system to model human errors in the performance of a high-level cognitive task: to solve simple linear algebra problems while memorizing a digit span. Errors of omission are produced by introducing a cutoff on the latency of memory retrievals. If a memory chunk cannot gather enough activation to be retrieved before the threshold i s reached, retrie...

Explorations in ACT-R Based Cognitive Modeling - Chunks, Inheritance, Production Matching and Memory in Language Analysis

This paper explores the benefits and challenges of using the ACT-R cognitive architecture in the development of a largescale, functional, cognitively motivated language analysis model. The paper focuses on chunks, inheritance, production matching and memory, proposing extensions to ACT-R to support multiple inheritance and suggesting a mapping from the focus of attention, working memory and lon...

Modeling Developmental Transitions in Reasoning about False Beliefs of Others

Reasoning about false beliefs of others develops with age. We present here an ACT-R model in order to show the developmental transitions. These start from a child’s reasoning from his/her own point of view (zero-order) to taking into consideration another agent’s beliefs (first-order), and later to taking into consideration another agent’s beliefs about again other agents’ beliefs (second-order...

Comparison of Personality Dark Trait and Behavioral Activation /Inhibition System in Bodybuilders with and without the Use of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids

Over the past decade, the use of steroid medications has increased among athletes, especially bodybuilders who work professionally. Therefore, the present study was conducted to compare the dark trait personality and behavioral activation-inhibition system in bodybuilders with and without the use of anabolic-androgenic steroids. The present study was descriptive and casual-comparative. The stat...

Neural Signatures of Controlled and Automatic Retrieval Processes in Memory-based Decision-making

Decision-making often requires retrieval from memory. Drawing on the neural ACT-R theory [Anderson, J. R., Fincham, J. M., Qin, Y., & Stocco, A. A central circuit of the mind. Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 12, 136-143, 2008] and other neural models of memory, we delineated the neural signatures of two fundamental retrieval aspects during decision-making: automatic and controlled activation of m...
